Finished 1st Week! + Which Kim Kardashian Look?

Oh my gosh school has be pretty unbelievably busy! Lots of reading of theory this week! My lecturer was away to do a bridal shoot today so another teacher came in and she brought up a really interesting and I think important subject in class. I'm still thinking about it myself! She was basically saying that if you want to be taken seriously or just make a good impression it is important not to have your kit consist of drugstore brands and such, while my other teacher mentioned that we should shop economically for our kits. It's really contradictory and I'm still trying to decide on what I'm going to do with kit, because I believe that at the end of the day, it's MY kit, I'll fill it with whatever it is I think that works best from my experience.

So, my question is, say it was your wedding day and you booked a make up artist and she came and opened her kit, and you find that she mostly has lower end brands, would it bother you? And please answer honestly! As snobby as I may sound, I would say yeah it would bother me a little, especially if the foundations were of lower end brands because at the end of the day, I just think that higher end brands give better quality and I wouldn't want anything else on my skin.

==========================

Since I adore Kim Kardashian's everything I wanted to do a look inspired by her! I will be posting photos underneath and you guys can choose which one you like best! :D Now, what look would you guys like me to recreate next out of the photos below?

And yes, I do realise that recreating her look is relatively easy but I just want to start out with a look that I'm more familiar and comfortable with :)

  3. I think the 3rd and 4th are the same? I say, either one of those or #1!!! And to answer your question, I wouldn't mind if a couple things were drugstore but if everything was, I'd be a little snobby. Honest answer! I guess you'd expect a pro to have the best brands and things that aren't so easily accessible to let's say, the average person. I'm so excited to follow along in your journey to becoming a MUA! Good luck babe!!!!

  4. do the 4th! :) you look much cuter than her anyway perhaps you can do them all if you're bored xD the first one is ooh-lalaaaa hehe.

it would bother me for my wedding but for any other makeover, i wouldn't care as long as it looked good!

  5. either the 2nd pic or the last pic! :)

and yes i do feel incredibly insecure if my makeup artist has only lower end brands. i guess i will definitely ask first before i commit him/her as my big day m/u artist? :) if not maybe i'll just ask him/her to use the makeup i already have? :)

  6. I love the first look but I think the 4th one would make a better tutorial!
It would def. bother me if I booked someone for my wedding and they brought lower end brands. I would be expecting higher end brands-especially for something like a wedding! I want to know that I'm paying for something that I normally wouldn't use or buy.

  11. As a working makeup artist, I have to say that I’m personally more concerned with the quality of my tools and products rather than the brand hype. My kit was developed over years I would not advice to go and buy everything at once. I’ve been using Maybelline Very Black mascara for a long time, people may consider this a lower end brand but the result are fabulous. The funny part is many people are not aware that many drugstore cosmetics are made in the same factories as the high-end makeup.

  12. Yeah, to be honest, if I feel the make up artist I hired doesn't have "better" makeup than me--for example using a bunch of lower end stuff, it would bother me. But if she uses a few drugstore brands and explains to me how this is her favorite kind of foundation (or whatever) and how it's essential to my look, but I might just trust her. Because after all, she is a makeup artist and I'm not... Maybe I just give them more credit because of their title...?

Annnd, I'm not a fan of any Kardashian, but her make up is pretty. I like the FIRST and LAST. :)

  13. i think i like the first and last looks :D

as for brands.. hmm.. there are definitely some great drugstore brands out there. i think with foundation, i would rather have a higher end brand just because there's a reason why they cost so much more. but for everything else, i don't think i would mind. NYX is just as awesome as any other brand out there, PLUS it's much cheaper.. so you can have a much more varied kit, which is always nice.

but overall.. i think if she's open to questions, then it's okay. as long as i can ask her "hey why are you using ___" (without sounding rude of course) and she answers, it's all good!

of course, it always is impressive to see a MUA with a complete MAC kit.

i think it's just up to the MUA and what products they want to use.. especially if their results are fab, does it really matter what they use?

  14. I like the second one from the top.

I wouldn't want to put drugstore like makeup on my face for my wedding day. If anything I would bring my own makeup and have the artist put my makeup on me!

  15. For my wedding day I wouldn't want drugstore make-up.

  16. recreate 4 or 5!! and about the drugstore brands thing, as a person who doesn't really wear make-up much, i think i'd care more about skill than brand. A highly skilled person can take something that is not necessarily branded and still make it look good! and i think that of many things, not just makeup. BUT then again, a lot of the times, you get what you pay for. So really... I dont know.. maybe it would depend on HOW lower end brand it is.

  17. The second look of her doesn't seem too intricate but so gorgeous. The 4th one is also nice I think. ;)

If it's for my wedding then I'd expect high end brands especially for the foundations and the eyeshadows. :)

I'm glad you're all well too, hun, good luck with makeup school! :)

  20. Ofcourse, the first one is my favorite. She looks ohh soo gorgeous. I also like the last photo as well.

About your question, to be honest, i dont see anything wrong with drugstore products. Makeup artist do use a lot of drugstore products at fashion shows, runways, photo shoots and etc. I love my revlon color stay foundation and i dont mind wearing that for a special occassion. On the other hand, i do have an issue with drugstore blushes except for Milani. I feel like most of the are chalky, doesnt last long and just stays on top of your face as supposed to really blending into your skin.

go to www.inmykit.com its a website about what makeupartist really carries in their kit. Theres not a sinlge mac in the list. Im sure it will be helpful for you :) Let me know what you think.

  21. i would not be happy if a make up artist showed up with just lower end brands. i feel like i wouldnt need a make up artist in the first place is they wre just going to use cheap things on me .

i love kims second and third look. her lashes in the third photo are stunning

  22. Ooh, ooh! I love #1!

When I got married, I did my own make-up and used mostly drug store products on my face. I don't think it's a big deal as long as the products are high quality!

But, had I hired someone, I probably would be surprised if they pulled out a lot of lower end products. Having bridal make-up done is so expensive; I think most people would expect MAC, NARS, etc.

Good luck with your assignment! I can't wait to see the finished look!

  23. i really love the 2nd one! (:

I guess it would bother me, but I'm DEFINITELY having a 'trial' BEFORE my wedding day, so I know for SURE I'm going to look damn fine on my actual wedding day. lol

  24. i like the 4th look=) theres just something abt full bottom lashes that make her look surreal. Any of her looks u choose to recreate pls post pics i cant wait see em!!

  26. that bitch is so pretty I want to kill myself lol

  27. Oh she looks gorgeous in every single one! I think they'd all be fun to do!!

As for the Bridal dilemma I have to admit I would be a littleeeee put off if it was ALL lower end brands. A mixture I would be more than fine with though! But I guess if it was ONLY lower end I would think I could do this myself, ya know? That sounds snobby as I knowwww! But it would also depend on the makeup application!!! If it was someone as talented as you I would be happy for them to use Crazy clarks makeup all the way :)
P.S. Happy Aus Day to you too my lovely!!!

  28. i dont think it matters what brand of makeup you use if you do good makeup and drugstore brand makeup isnt necessarily bad. some are quite good! :) i would prob do a test run before the actual wedding though! :) love your blog! imma follow you!!

  29. Haha, you and me are so similar! I LOVE gay guys! I probably wouldn't find Adam Lambert as hot if he wasn't gay XD... but of course he's an amazing singer, the gay thing just upped his hotness :D
I vote for the last Kim Kardashian picture! Hmm, I always thought her looks were difficult... please teach! :D

  30. I think it initially it would make me nervious, but if it all looked okay in the end that is all that matters. In my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  31. hm... it would bother me! Because if it's my wedding day I'd probably pay top dollar for a makeup artist to do my makeup so I expect you to use top dollar makeup! YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?!?! Like if you're a hella cheap makeup artist and isn't charging much then I probably wouldn't mind the lower end brands but I wanna get what I pay for :)

I like all of kim k's pictures.. LOL!
